KARACHI, Feb 3: All the top seeds had no difficulty in reaching the men’s singles last four of the second Sindh Open ranking tennis tournament at the Beach View Club on Tuesday.

Davis Cupper Aqeel Khan, the top seed, maintained his clean slate with a smooth 6-0, 6-0 victory over Omer Shahid. He is now drawn to meet fast emerging player and fourth seed Nasir Mushtaq who too, disposed of Robin Das by the identical margin.

Second seed Nomi Qamar and third seed Yasir Khan, both former members of Pakistan Davis Cup teams, were through at the expenses of Raza brothers, Abbas and Zuhair. Nomi ended the winning run of Abbas imposing 6-2, 6-2 victory while Yasir inflicted a 6-1, 6-1 defeat on Zuhair.

Aqeel faces Nasir in the first semi-final while Nomi takes on Yasir in the second on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Islamabad’s Sara Mansoor, the Pakistan No 2 and top seed, marched into the ladies’ singles semis with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Maheen Dada who was no match to her opponent in the opener.

Joining her in the last four are Nida Waseem who accounted for Sara Ahmed 6-0, 6-1 while Seher Khawaja overcame Rija Sanni 6-2, 6-0.

Nida is making her appearance on the domestic circuit after the 2007 National Games held in the city.

Only eight players are competing in the ladies singles category.

Quarter-finals: Aqeel Khan bt Omer Shahid 6-0, 6-0; Nasir Mushtaq bt Robin Das 6-0, 6-0; Yasir Khan bt Syed Zuhair Raza 6-1, 6-1; Nomi Qamer bt Syed Abbas Raza 6-2, 6-2.

Ladies singles:

Quarter-finals: Nida Waseem bt Sara Ahmed 6-0, 6-1; Seher Khawaja bt Rija Sanni 6-2, 6-0; Sara Mansoor (Islamabad) bt Maheen Dada 6-0, 6-0.

Men’s doubles:

Semi-finals: Robin Das and Vinod Das bt Shamayal and Fraz Ahsan 6-1, 7-5; Aqeel Khan and Abdul Rehman bt Fahim Ramzan and Khadim Husain 6-2, 6-2.

Girls U-17 singles:

First round: Faryal Sharrif bt Rija Sanni 8-2; Uzma Zakaria walkover Aliya Hai.

Semi-final: Maheen Dada bt Uzma Zakaria 8-3.

Boys and girls U-11 singles:

M. Raza Sawani bt Kanishkan 8-2.

Boys U-9 singles:

Nabit bt Kanishkan 8-6.

Wednesday’s fixtures:
