HYDERABAD, Feb 4: The Hyderabad Sarrafa and Jewellers Group has withdrawn call for strike in protest against a spate of robberies in goldsmiths’ shops and houses after a meeting with Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Shafique Ahmed Qureshi on Wednesday.

The jewellers’ body had announced at a press conference at the press club on Tuesday that they would keep the shutters of their shops down for an indefinite period to register protest.

According to reports, the HCCI president held a meeting with the representatives of jewellers and senior police officers and finally succeeded in persuading the group to call off the strike.

He said that the business community believed that all local problems should be solved through dialogue with local authorities and expressed the hope that the district police would make efforts to recover the looted jewellery and cash and nab the accused. The DPO said that any differences between business community and police would only benefit criminals and claimed that police had busted many criminal gangs involved in street crimes and assured that he would appoint a team of competent police officers to investigate all the robberies.

KASHMIR DAY: Like other parts of the country, Kashmir Solidarity Day will be observed in Hyderabad on Thursday (today) with zeal and fervour.

This was said by Hyderabad DSCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri at a meeting to finalize arrangements to commemorate Kashmir Day.

The DCO said that a rally, led by District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil, would be taken out from Gymkhana to the press club. He said that the EDOs, DOs and DDOs of the district government, teachers, students, members of NGOs and Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and people would participate in the rally.
