BAHAWALPUR, Feb 8: Around 300 women have complained about being denied facility under the much-publicised Food Stamp Scheme (FSS) for the last three months.

A group of women who had been duly registered by the Punjab government, led by Union Council 1 (Bahawalpur city) Nazim Malik Abdul Majid Channar, has apprised Commissioner Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmad of the situation. They informed him that they were not being paid Rs1,000 each for the past three months.

The UC nazim told Dawn that these women belonged to poor families and deserved financial help. He said he had asked Punjab Minister for Special Education Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar to include these women’s names in the list of the FSS, but he did not accommodate them as a result of which the women had been deprived of the monthly stipend.

He said the commissioner had directed the officials to help the deserving.

Meanwhile, DCO Haroon Rafiq, while chairing revenue officers’ meeting here on Sunday, directed them to speed up monetary assistance to the deserving under the scheme. More than 3,000 families had so far been facilitated, he added.

RELEASED: The Punjab government has released a sum of Rs260 million for dualizing of Hasilpur-Bahawalnagar Road.

MPA Safdar Gill said the first phase of the road from Hasilpur to Bakshan Khan would be built.
