ISLAMABAD, Feb 8: Pakistan Muslim League-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain will contest for a Senate seat from Punjab. This was decided at a meeting of senior leaders of the party held at Chaudhry Shujaat’s Lahore residence on Saturday.

PML-Q’s Information Secretary Senator Tariq Azeem said the party had decided to continue to play the role of constructive opposition and not to ally itself with any party or group for the time being.

He denied reports that his party was trying to form a coalition with the PPP in Punjab and said that Chaudhry Shujaat had taken party leaders into confidence about his talks with various political parties. Chaudhry Shujaat denied having met Mian Nawaz Sharif in London or anywhere else.

The PML-Q, he said, had not reached any understanding with any party on seat adjustments for the Senate poll, adding that the parliamentary board would decide in a few days about allotment of the party’s tickets”.

Mr Azeem said that some leaders of the party had met the Punjab governor, but nothing “has been discussed about a change of government in the province”.

He said the meeting was attended by

Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari, Humayun Akhtar Khan, Naeem Hussain Chattha, Anwar Bhinder, Habibullah Warriach, Mushahhid Hussain Syed, Kamil Ali Agha, Mir Naseer Mengal, S.M. Zafar, Khalid Ranjha, Khusro Akhtar, Chaudhry Ameer Hussain, Ishaq Khakwani, Nasrullah Dareshak, Amir Muqam and Begum Mehnaz Rafi.

It is learnt that only a small number of supporters of Hamid Nasir Chattha group participated in the meeting.
