KARACHI, Feb 10: Three people were killed on Tuesday in acts of violence in different parts of the city, witnesses and police said.
The Saeeabad police said that a 42-year-old man was killed by bandits near Mochkoh bus stop No 2 at around 6pm.
They said that four bandits intercepted a bus coming from Hub Chowki and went on a looting spree. The police said one of the passengers was shot dead by the highwaymen when he struggled with them.
They said that the bandits fled the scene after shooting the man who died instantly.
The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim was shot a single bullet to his face from point blank range as the bullet went through his skull.
The police said that the victim, a resident of Awaran, Balochistan, was a farmer and he was on his way along with his wife’s brother to visit an ailing relative in Mehmoodabad.
The police registered a murder case (FIR 74/2009) against unidentified culprits on the complaint of the victim’s brother-in-law.
Young man shot dead
A 22-year-old man was shot dead and his friend wounded in the small hours of Tuesday by unidentified attackers behind Iqbal Centre, a multistorey residential plaza off M.A. Jinnah Road.
The Risala police said that the two friends were on their way on a motorcycle when the attackers opened fire on them at around 4.15am.
They said that Asif Baloch, son of Fazalur Rehman Baloch, was fatally wounded and died before he could be moved to the hospital.
The police said that the body and the injured man, Zohaib Baloch, were later shifted to the Civil Hospital.
Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that Asif was shot a single bullet in his upper torso from a very close range and it pierced through his ribcage.
They said that Zohaib received a bullet wound in the ankle and he was discharged from the hospital after medical treatment.
The police registered a case (FIR 50/2009) against unidentified attackers under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the wounded victim.
The police said that both the friends were residents of Aath Chowk in Lyari.
The deceased is stated to be a worker of the Baloch Student Organisation (BSO).
Watchman shot dead
A 45-year-old watchman at an estate agency was shot dead in Malir Cantt.
The police said that the victim, Inayatullah Bajwah, son of Sarbuland Bajwah, was allegedly shot dead by a former watchman of the estate agency, Zahoor Khan, who was untraceable.
They said that the estate agency owner, Mohammed Ashraf, reached his office at around 8am and found the victim lying in a pool of blood at the bed in his room.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

The estate agency owner reported to the police that the suspect also took away his licensed repeater and a pistol.
The police registered a case (FIR 21/2009) against Zahoor Khan under Sections 302 (murder) and 380 (theft) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Mohammed Ashraf.
The complainant said that he had stowed away his licensed weapons at a secret place in his office that was known to his former watchman.
Motorcyclist killed
A 32-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he was run over by a fast-moving truck on I.I. Chundrigarh Road.
The Mithadar police said that the truck first hit the motorcycle near Uni Tower and then it rammed into an auto-rickshaw, also injuring its driver.
The body and the injured rickshaw driver were shifted to the Civil Hospital where the deceased was identified as Syed Imranul Hasan, son of Syed Manzoor Hussain, and the injured man as Mohammed Qasim.
The police arrested the truck driver, Sher Afzal, and registered a case (FIR 147/2009) against him under Sections 320 (causing death by reckless driving) and 427 (causing damage to the rickshaw) on the complaint of the injured rickshaw driver.
