QUETTA, Feb 10: Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Robina Irfan has said that evening courts and speedy courts will be set up in the province to provide cheap and swift justice to the people.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, the minister said the evening and swift courts would help speedy disposal of cases pending for a long time in various courts.

She said the provincial law department had sent its recommendations to the federal ministry of law and justice to approve the move.

She said that the department had also urged the ministry to appoint judges from Balochistan in the Islamabad High Court and subordinate courts. She said judges had been appointed in the IHC and subordinate courts from other provinces, but Balochistan had been ignored.

“We have also recommended appointments of women judges in the high court,” she said, adding that a list of women had been sent to the federal government for the purpose.

Referring to judicial reforms, Ms Irfan said the number of judges in the Balochistan High Court and subordinate courts, would be increased.

She said the condition of women prisoners in jails was bad and they had been kept with prisoners involved in heinous crimes.

She said she had also suggested to the federal law ministry that political prisoners should not be handcuffed.

She said despite shortage of funds, 77 vacancies had been created in the law department and filled on basis of merit. She said the law department needed funds for making the judicial system more effective.
