Two-year suspension for doping: ICC

Published February 14, 2009

LAHORE, Feb 13: Under the new doping policy of the International Cricket Council (ICC), a player who fails to give his urine sample after being asked thrice would face a two-year suspension from the game, an ICC official said here on Friday.

Laurinda Riglas, ICC’s Doping Manager, was here to conduct a two-day doping course, attended by Pakistan cricketers at the NCA on Wednesday and Thursday. The ICC has adopted a new, strict policy over doping affairs from Jan 1, 2009.

To apprise cricketers about the consequences of the policy, Riglas said, the ICC had decided to conduct courses in every affiliated member country, adding that Pakistan was the first in this connection. She added that every international player had to inform the ICC about his three-month engagements and for that purpose a hotline (fax and telephone) had been established to provide a swift contact to the players.

The official further said a player’s dope test could be conducted at any time.—Sports Reporter
