VEHARI, Feb 17: Former MPA and PML-N district chapter president Nazir Ahmad, alias Mitho Dogar, and his brother, Sikandar Dogar, were arrested in a murder case after their interim bail was dismissed by the Lahore High Court’s Multan Bench here on Tuesday.

On Dec 15, 2008, unknown assailants had shot at and injured former Burewala tehsil bar association secretary-general Nadeem Dogar when he was returning from a local graveyard after offering a funeral. Nadeem Dogar later succumbed to his wounds in a Lahore hospital on Dec 30.

On the report of victim’s friend Chaudhry Ashique Arain, the city police registered a case against six people, including Nazir Dogar, his brother Sikandar Dogar, Ishfaq Dogar and three unidentified suspects under Section 302, 324, and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

On Tuesday, Justice Ahsan Bhoon dismissed the pre-arrest bail of both the brothers on which police arrested them. Nazir’s gunman Ishfaq Dogar is still at large.

Nazeer Dogar’s another brother Sagheer Dogar told reporters in Burewala that his brothers were innocent. He said political rivals wanted involving them in this case.

Local PML-N leaders and activists condemned the arrest of former MPA and his brother. The suspects will be produced before a local court for remand on Wednesday (today).
