NWFP, Punjab triumph

LAHORE, Feb 17: NWFP and Punjab won convincingly on the opening day of the 18th National Baseball Championship at the Iqbal Park Sports Complex on Tuesday.

In the first match, NWFP crushed Balochistan 20-0.

The winners batted well through Abdul Ghani, who contributed four runs to become the top scorer. Afridi, Waqar and Naeemullah added three runs apiece.

Punjab outplayed Sindh 12-5 in another match of the day.

Ahsan Sheikh was the main scorer for the Punjab with three runs. For Sindh Raheel Khan (2), Jawad Ali (1), Mohammad Khaliq (1) and Osama Ahmed (1) were the scorers.

On Wednesday, Navy will face Punjab and NWFP will take on Islamabad.—Sports Reporter
