KHAIRPUR, Feb 18: Renowned Sufi singer Sohrab Faqeer has been admitted to the Civil Hospital Khairpur due to breathing problem.

He was brought from his village Talpur Wada on Tuesday and admitted to medical ward-I where doctors were providing him all possible treatment.

His son Hameed Ali told Dawn on Wednesday that Suhrab Faqir developed breathing problem and was referred to the Civil Hospital by physicians in Talpur Wada and Ranipur.

Civil Surgeon Dr Aijaz Gajani and other doctors visited Sohrab Faqeer and shifted him to a private room.

Dr Gajani told this correspondent that Sohrab Faqeer was suffering from lungs ailment and had become weak due to prolonged illness. However, his condition can not be termed serious, he added.

Hameed Ali demanded to shift him to some better hospital for proper treatment.

He said that Sohrab Faqeer was given an award and Rs200,000 cash reward by Lok Virsa in Sukkur. On the occasion, Federal Labour Minister Khursheed Shah also announced granting him Rs300,000 cash reward.

However, he said that when they opened the two envelopes, the Lok Virsa envelope contained two cheques of Rs100,000 each but Mr Shah’s envelope had only two cheques of Rs100,000 each with the third cheque missing.

Hameed Ali said that they had informed the quarters concerned about the missing cheque.

He recalled that the Sindh government had also announced Rs100,000 grant for Suhrab Faqir’s treatment at Sachal Conference in Daraza last year but they did not receive this amount as yet.

CLASH: A farmer was killed and his brother and father injured in a clash over water sharing near Wali Dad Lund village in the Setharja area on Wednesday.

According to the Setharja police, Mumtaz Lund, his brother Gul Bahar and father Ghulam Mohammad were watering their land when a group of growers raised objections and said that it was their turn to water land.

This led to armed clash between the two groups. As a result, Ghulam Mohammad and his sons were injured. Later Mumtaz, 28, died.

Fayaz Ahmed Lund of the rival group had been arrested.
