Lahore bar suspends membership of Badr

Published February 20, 2009

LAHORE, Feb 19: The Lahore Bar Association on Thursday suspended the membership of PPP Secretary-General Jahangir Badr and issued him a show-cause notice apparently in retaliation to suspension of Aitzaz Ahsan’s central executive committee’s membership in the party.

The bar has also sought explanation from Badr within a week for making an attempt to weaken the lawyers’ movement. It has also warned the PPP secretary-general that his membership will be cancelled if he fails to explain his opposition.

Badr had suspended Aitzaz’s CEC membership alleging that he was involved in activities in conflict with party’s policy.

Meanwhile, the lawyers observed a weekly boycott of courts and staged a rally on The Mall in connection with the movement for the restoration of deposed judges.

Workers of political parties, including the PML-N, Tehrik-i-Insaaf, Labour Party, Khaksar Tehrik and civil society organisations, also participated in the rally.

Slogans were raised against Badr during the LHCBA meeting for suspending the membership of Aitzaz Ahsan.
