PPP activists ransack office

Published February 22, 2009

HYDERABAD, Feb 21: PPP activists ransacked the office of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme, Works and Services Department, off Wahdat Colony and manhandled the staff on Saturday. The incident was the outcome of non-payment of stipend to a trainee.

Sources told Dawn that the activists were led by a senior PPP district office-bearer who was furious over the non-payment of stipend to a girl trainee for want of attendance.

A trainee is paid stipend if 85-90 per cent attendance requirement was met, said an official and offered two months’ payment and joining letter. He tried to explain his position to the PPP leader but had to face the brunt of activists.

They ransacked the office in the presence of PPP Hyderabad general secretary.
