ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: A part-time taxi driver was murdered during an apparent robbery attempt here on Saturday night, police said,

The incident occurred at a distance of a few metres from a police picket in G11/1. The police officials of the picket heard gunshots and rushed to the spot where they found the body lying in a taxi near Kashmir Highway.

They also observed two persons running towards the wooded area located at Dhoke Kashmirian. Later, the body was shifted to hospital.

The victim was identified as Zulfikhar Masih, 43, a sweeper at a government school in I-9/1. The police said the victim received two gunshots - one at the back which exited from the chest and the other in the arm.

Meanwhile, two persons were killed and three injured in separate road accidents. Mohammad Shakil, 30, a resident of Haripur, along with his wife Sahar, sister Fatima and children - Mohammad Omer, 3, and Mohammad Anas - was coming to Rawalpindi in an Alto car. When they reached near Tarnol police station, the car overturned after one of its front tyres burst. The injured were shifted to hospital where Shakil was pronounced dead while the others were out of danger.

A motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle near Soan Garden. The victim was identified as Raja Shajeel Ahmed, 48, an official of a security company.
