Women cricket camp begins today

KARACHI, Feb 22: National camp in preparation for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (March 7-22) in Australia commences at 10.00am at the National Stadium, Karachi from Monday.

“We had allowed the players a four-day rest after returning from the triangular series in Bangladesh and the entire team that played in that tournament will reunite for camp in Karachi on Monday. The girls from Punjab and NWFP will also be joining by the evening,” informed team coach Umer Rashid.

The women’s team will also play against an Under-17 boys’ team at the Karachi Gymkhana on Feb 26 as a part of its preparations for the big event. The eight-nation event will see the teams divided into two groups.

Pakistan has been placed with India, England and Sri Lanka in Group ‘B’ while defending champions and hosts Australia, New Zealand, West Indies and South Africa constitute Group ‘A’.

The camp will continue until Feb 28 when the team leaves for Australia.

The team: Urooj Mumtaz Khan (captain), Sana Mir (vice captain), Bisma Maroof, Nain Abidi, Sajida Shah, Javeria Khan, Arman Khan, Batool Fatima, Naheeda Khan, Almas Akram, Asmavia Iqbal, Sania Khan, Kanita Jalil, Naila Nazir, Sukhhan Faiz.
