KHAIRPUR, Jan 5: District Nazim Nafisa Shah has complained that the Nazims and councillors of the Awam Dost Panel are being harassed and implicated in concocted cases of water theft.

Talking to villagers during her visit to Bozdar Wada and Talpur Wada on Sunday, she said that the police were registering the cases against the ADP Nazims and councillors under pressure.

Giving an example, she said that the irrigation sub-engineer of Kot Diji taluka had recently lodged a false case of water theft against Imdad Gopang, the state manager of Naseer Faqir Jalalani union council Nazim Imtiaz Mallah. She deplored that Khairpur district had become a police state and no government officer was ready to listen to her.

NAIB NAZIMS: A meeting of the taluka Naib Nazims of the district was held in Kingri on Saturday which was attended by the Naib Nazims of Kingri, Thari Mirwah, Kot Diji, Faiz Ganj and Gambat talukas.

It was decided at the meeting that a convention of the taluka Naib Nazims of Sindh would be held in Khairpur to formulate a strategy against the problems being faced by the taluka Naib Nazims.

The meeting constituted a three-member coordination committee which would visit different parts of Sindh and meet the taluka Naib Nazims to invite them to attend the convention.

PPP LEADER: Former Sindh chief minister and MPA Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that democracy has not been restored in the country and there is no hope of its restoration in the near future.

He was talking to party workers and newsmen at the Jilani House here on Monday. Mr Shah said the PPP and its allied parties were in a majority in Sindh and at the centre it was playing a vital role for the restoration of democracy.

He said democracy means government for the people and by the people but here it was for "one" and by "one" man - Gen Musharraf. Mr Shah said the MPAs who defected from the party and voted for Gen Musharraf had been expelled from the party.
