SAHIWAL, Jan 5: The head warder of the central jail was killed on Monday when his clothes were entangled in the peter engine of the jail tube-well. Reports coming in said the potato crop sown at the residence of jail superintendent Farooq Nazir was ruining for lack of irrigation water due to closure of canals.
A friend of Farooq upbraided head warder Salamat Ali, who started the engine of the tubewell to irrigate the crop and his clothes were entangled in the engine. He was beheaded within few moments. Later, the deceased was buried.
ARRESTED: Civil Lines police arrested on Monday a man, who was allegedly hurling murder threats to a bank branch manager. Reports said Bashir Ahmad Bajwa came to Iftikhar Husain Shah, a bank manager, and asked him to provide him a car on lease immediately.
The bank manager said he should first complete a form, but the visitor insisted that he should be given a car without a moment's delay. At this, the bank staff caught him and handed him over to police along with his servant, Abdul Hamid. A case has been registered against the man, who has been sent to central jail on judicial remand.
