DERA GHAZI KHAN, Jan 11: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has refused to accept the official name of the tehsil tribal area.

According to details, Nadra has informed the tehsil administration of the tribal area by a letter that "it is to inform that Nadra has to print all particulars in Urdu on computerized national identity cards. Therefore de-excluded area is mentioned as Dera Ghazi Khan illaqa ghair on cards. The same practice is being followed for all de-excluded areas of the country, therefore, Dera Ghazi Khan is no exception."

The tehsil Nazim told Dawn that Nadra could not adopt the old nomenclature of the tehsil despite the issuance of a gazette notification of the tehsil tribal area by the Punjab government. He said Nadra was violating the notification.

He said: "Due to this reason, the tribal area people face many problems when they go abroad as the immigration authorities there consider them the residents of illaqa ghair of the NWFP - a place used by terrorists as hideout."
