GUJRANWALA, Jan 13: The Gujranwala Saddar SHO was suspended from service by the DIG after a bailiff recovered a teenaged girl from his torture cell and her brother from lock-up on Tuesday.
Widow Zarina of Saneer Goraya village filed a habeas corpus petition against illegal detention of her daughter 'S' and son Kashif by SHO Inspector Khalid Mahmood Afzal. A bailiff recovered both the detainees and produced them before court.
The girl told the bailiff that police officials humiliated her and took her photographs. The judge ordered medical check-up of both victims and issued the notice to the SHO and investigating officer for Wednesday (today).
TRANSPORT POLICY: The transport policy would be implemented strictly throughout the province. This was stated by Provincial Transport Minister Rana Shamshad Ahmad Khan at a meeting here on Tuesday.
He said under the policy all unlicensed lorry addas would be abolished, driving licenses issued after completing training of drivers and fitness certificate given to the vehicles fit for running on road.
Mr Khan said extortionists received forced (jagga) tax from transporters after setting up small addas. He said training institutes would be set up at tehsils and district headquarters where drivers would be given training.
He claimed that necessary equipments were being purchased to check the vehicle. He said 3,000 new buses would be purchased this year for plying on Lahore-Kamoki and Wazirabad-Ghakkhar-Kamoki routes.
KILLED: A man killed his father and stepmother over a domestic issue in Muslim Ganj, Kamoki, on Tuesday. Mushtaq was sitting along with his second wife, Asia, in the compound of his house when Ijaz stabbed them to death. Later, the accused surrendered to police.
LOOTED: Five highwaymen looted a marriage procession on the GT Road, Sadhoki, on Tuesday. Kamoki Saddar police have registered a case.
