RAWALPINDI, Jan 15: A court on Thursday acquitted two policemen of the charges of abetting an under-trial prisoner to escape from their custody. Civil Judge Mehr Tahir Abbas acquitted constables Mohammad Nadeem and Mohammad Jamil of the charges of helping an under- trial prisoner, Mohammad Umar, to flee from their custody.
According to the prosecution, the policemen had willingly released the prisoner from their custody, while bringing him here from Gujranwaala. Waris Khan police had registered a case against both the constables.
Meanwhile, Civil Judge Ghazala Yasmin issued warrants for the arrest of three officials of New Town police station for failing to obey court directives. The court issued warrants for the arrest of additional station house officer Chaudhry Akhtar, sub-inspector Khalid Mehmood and assistant sub-inspector Mohammad Aslam, who had failed to appear before the court for recording their statements in a criminal case.
The court directed the station house officer, New Town police station, to produce officials in the court on February 2. Similarly, the judge of the anti-terrorism court No 2, Safdar Hussain Malik, recorded statements of eight prosecution witnesses (PWs) in a firing case inside the Islamabad district court premises in which five people were injured a year ago. The court also adjourned the case till January 21.
The judge of the anti-terrorism court No 1, Manzoor Ahmed Mirza, also adjourned hearing of the Shah Najaf Imambargah terrorism case till January 24, after two prosecution witnesses failed to appear before the court to record their statements.
