MINGORA, Jan 16: Professional hunters have started killing rare birds ruthlessly in parts of Malakand division and the authorities concerned are least interested in taking action against them.

With the advent of the winter season, birds of different kinds, including rare species, have started visiting lower parts of Swat, Dir and Buner districts and the hunters have picked up their guns to kill them.

If this illegal practice continues, the rare species of birds will hardly exist any longer. The authorities of the wildlife department were also silent, giving a free hand to the wrongdoers.

People have also started illegal fishing in all the rivers and tributaries of Malakand division. It has also been reported that virulent chemicals and poisons are being used for the purpose.

COUNCIL'S MEETING: The monthly meeting of the Swat tehsil council will be held at 10:30am on Saturday at the council hall.
