DERA GHAZI KHAN, Jan 20: The district government has still to start the projects of the citizen community boards despite the submission of 20 per cent initial amount, feasibility and design of the projects by the boards.

According to reports, as many as 154 citizen community boards have been registered in the district, 57 of those have deposited 20 per cent of their fixed initial amount after receiving from relevant people. However, even after five months none of the projects had been taken up so far.

The district government has failed to release funds for the projects of the CCBs, though Rs60 million are lying in the account for this purpose. A district council member, Shahida Qureshi, told this correspondent on Tuesday that Nazim Jamal Leghari was not taking interest in the projects' approval. She said these registered CCBs would also finish with the termination of the government's tenure.

Union Council (urban) No 3 Nazim Mian Abu Bakr said not a single development work had been initiated so far in the current fiscal year. He said people had deposited Rs1 million (20 per cent of the initial cost of their projects), but neither the Nazim nor the EDO (works and community) was taking interest in proper functioning the boards.

It is pertinent to note that the district council members - Advocate Shahida Qureshi and Mian Abu Bakr - have submitted their resolution for the debate at the council meeting on Jan 28.
