GUJRANWALA, Jan 22: A lawyer of the District Bar Association was beaten up and injured by a respondent to a case, here on Thursday. Reports said Nahid Bibi moved against her husband Ijaz Qamar the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Ikram. Advocate Rauf Ahmad Chauhan and his brother, Farooq Ahmad Chauhan, were pursuing the case.

The accused had reportedly asked the lawyers to drop the case, but they refused. On Thursday, they were returning from the sessions court when the accused clubbed Rauf with an iron-rod. As a result, the lawyer was grievously injured and admitted to the district headquarters hospital. Police have registered a case against the accused.

HEARING: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 continued hearing the murder case of former provincial minister Chaudhry Muhammad Farooq and recorded the statement of a witness on Thursday.

After recording the statement of Abdul Shakoor, who was hurt during the incident, judge Iftikhar Husain Shah adjourned the case till Friday (today) and summoned slain minister's driver, Muhammad Arshad.

Meanwhile, the court also heard the circus fire case against the MMA activists and issued warrants for arrest of circus manager Muhammad Farooq, who was a complainant, and two witnesses - Bakhti Zaman and Fayyaz Ahmad - for not showing up in court.

The court adjourned the case till Jan 26. The ATC No 2 continued hearing the Daska church blast case and issued warrant for arrest of civil hospital lady doctor, Rehana Kausar, who didn't appear in court as a witness. The court ordered that she should be produced in court on the next date of hearing on Jan 31.

SHOT DEAD: A landlord was shot dead by his rivals at Jagowal village in Naushera Virkan on Thursday. Reports said Bashir Ahmad was in his house when suspects Ansar, Manzoor and Ashraf reached there and shot dead him.
