SUKKUR, Jan 23: A case of terrorism, mutiny and attack was registeredagainst 21 persons, including members of Khairpur district and Gambat taluka council, in Gambat on Friday.

Those booked had, on the call of Gambat Taluka Council's advisory council, organized a strike and taken out a procession in Gambat on Thursday. They had been protesting against Taluka Nazim Khalid Shaikh who has the support of the Pakistan Muslim League (Functional.)

The police had baton-charged the participants and arrested 21 of them against whom the case was registered. According to the SHO, the participants of the procession had raised slogans against the government and attacked the police officials.

Those arrested include a member of the district council and chairman of Gambat advisory council, Abdul Latif Shaikh, Safdar Sahto, Hidayatullah Shaikh, Gulzar Junejo, Dr Rahim Bukhsh Memon, Naeem Ali, Shahid, Ghulam Rasool, Abdul Karim, Qamruddin, Mumtaz, Nabi Bukhsh, Habibur Rehman, Shahmir, Manzoor Hussain, Sajjad Ali, Mohammad Din, Imran, Nasrullah and Abdul Majeed.

They have been booked under section 146, 147 and 148 of Pakistan Penal Code and section seven of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Shafi Mohammad Chandio advocate told journalists that the protesters had not done anything coming into the orbit of terrorism and the case would be challenged in the Sindh High Court.

BOOKED: Three separate cases were registered with the Abad police of Jacobabad on Thursday night against those arrested with 10 maunds of explosive material.

The accused include Zaman Mohammad, Amin, Mohammad Zahir, Mohammad Naeem, Abdul Jabbar, Sher Mohammad, Abdullah, Mohammad Yakoob, Mohammad Saleh, Khuda Bukhsh, Mohammad Asif and others.

They were arrested in a raid on passenger bus on its way from Peshawar to Quetta and included the driver. Fake documents and number plates of vehicles as well as opium and Charas were also seized in the raid.

A police official told journalists that the accused belonged to an inter-provincial gang involved in smuggling of vehicles from Iran and Afghanistan. He said that explosive material had been sent to Islamabad for test, after which investigation would take place.
