KOHAT, Jan 25: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has asked the students to keep themselves abreast with modern knowledge according to the requirements of society so that the country is able to face the challenges in the fast changing world.

Speaking at a function held in connection with the 38th parents day of the Cadet College Kohat, the governor stressed quality education for making the future of the country safe and prosperous.

"In this way we could survive the challenges of the new century and keep pace with the developed nations and live with honour and dignity," he said. The governor further said that teachers, parents and students were an important trio of society. Therefore, they should understand their responsibilities and duties in a developing country.

He praised the contribu-tion of the college in impar-ting good education to the students who were serving the country and the people in the military, medical, engineering and other important fields.

Earlier on his arrival, he was received by the chairman and members of the board of governors of the college and teachers, and was presented guard of honour by smartly turned out cadets.

Replying to a point raised by principal Faqir Riaz Younis in his welcome address, the governor promised to take up the issue of the reinstatement of the annual grant with the provincial government. He announced a grant of Rs1 million for the college.

The function was addressed by the chairman board of governors of the college, Maj-Gen Mohammad Tahir, whereas a large number of parents watched the march past, gymnastics, tent pegging and assault course and appreciated the skills of the students in different fields.
