Published January 26, 2004

OKARA, Jan 25: The District Council has named two high schools after eminent educationist Shaikh Abdul Haq for the services he has rendered for the promotion of education in the city.

The decision was taken at a district council meeting on a resolution which was unanimously passed by the members. The meeting was chaired by District Naib Nazim Syed Abbas Raza Rizvi.

The house was informed that Shaikh Abdul Haq had been running a school in Jallundhar (India) under the name of Jallundhar Islamia High School. After the partition, he migrated to Pakistan and started his Jallundhar Islamia High School in Okara.

In early 60s, Mr Haq obtained more than 12 acres of land in the city on Okara-Faisalabad Road from the then Sahiwal district deputy commissioner Masud Nabi Noor, his student in Jallundhar. He had constructed a large school building keeping in view to upgrade the school to a college level sometime in future.

The district government has notified the name of Government Islamia High School and Government Islamia High School New Campus, Faisalabad Road, after Shaikh Abdul Haq.
