GUJRANWALA, Feb 6: Some PPP activists have criticized their leaders, including members of parliament, for ignoring them in important affairs, and demanded that the devoted workers be adjusted in the party organization and other bodies.

Speaking at a workers' convention here on Friday at Dr Zafar Iqbal's residence, they accused the leaders of obliging their relatives and aides.

They alleged that all the MNAs and MPAs were using the devoted workers for their own interests, though they had pledged to support them.

ASI-LAWYER CLASH: The district and sessions judge has ordered the police higher-ups that the traffic police officials involved in manhandling a lawyer and keeping the DBA president and other office-bearers into illegal confinement should be arrested immediately.

Meanwhile, judge Riazul Hassan continued the hearing of the case on Friday. The DSP (legal) appeared in court on behalf of DPO Saud Aziz and said one of the suspects had been arrested while the others would be held soon.

The court adjourned the hearing till Feb 17.

HEARING: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 continued hearing the murder case of former provincial minister Chaudhry Farooq Ahmad and recorded the statements of two witnesses on Friday.

The court has recorded the statements of 32 witnesses so far in this case. The judge, Iftikhar Husain Shah, has summoned Wazirabad ASP Waqar Ahmad Chauhan and Inspector Rifat Javed today (Saturday) for recording their statements.

POLICE ESCAPE: A police party, led by Wazirabad ASP, on Friday escaped firing by robbers near Ahmadnagar.

Reports said robbers had escaped after looting cash and valuables from passers-by, a close relative of Lahore former DPO Aftab Ahmad Cheema, who was deprived of Rs19,000 in cash, among them.

On receiving information, Wazirabad SP Waqar Ahmad Chauhan and his team chased the robbers, who opened fire on them and took to heels.

INQUIRY: City Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad ordered on Friday inquiry into the death of a minor boy, who fell into an open manhole. He directed the authorities concerned that lids be arranged for open manholes in the district.
