SIALKOT, Feb 6: The traffic police challaned 7,243 different public transport and other vehicles for violation on the main Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala Road during the first month of 2004.

This was stated by DSP (traffic) Javed Nisar Basra while he was talking to newsmen here on Friday. The traffic police had challaned 1,019 vehicles in the last year's corresponding period.

The DSP said 103 vehicles were challaned for speeding, 516 for overloading, 115 for violating traffic signals, 89 loader vehicles, 197 for driving on the wrong side, 77 for having tinted screens, 127 for violating the stop line and lane and 967 for creating hurdles in the smooth traffic flow.

He said 180 cases were registered against drivers for reckless driving, 2,465 drivers were challaned for having no licences, 45 vehicles for using pressure horns, 126 for emitting smoke, 207 for being driven by the under-age drivers, 488 for having no registration numbers, 15 for being misfit, 312 for having no route permit and 348 vehicles were challaned by the traffic police for wrong parking.
