DADU, Feb 8: A strike was observed in Radhan and Thariri Mohabbat towns on Sunday to protest against the delay in the arrest of police officials who had killed a villager in a fake encounter.
The villager, Khadim Janwari, was killed in the Fazil Agaro village a few days back. Shopkeepers and activists of different political parties, also took out a protest procession in the Thariri Mohabbat town and held a demonstration at the railway crossing for two hours.
They were led by Mehar taluka People's Party Parliamentarians president Ghulam Dastagir Gorar and relatives of the deceased, Shahabuddin, Saeed Janwari and Jan Mohammad Junejo.
Speaking on the occasion, they criticized the Thariri Mohabbat police for not arresting all the seven nominated accused. They said three police constables Mithal, Shahnawaz and Shamsuddin had been arrested but their arrests had not been officially disclosed.
They claimed that the police were trying to cancel the murder case. They threatened that they would block the Dadu-Larkana Indus Highway and the railway crossing near Radhan if the remaining accused were not arrested.
ARRESTED: The Thariri Mohabbat police have arrested six people and recovered machinery while they were stealing oil from the main Parco pipeline.
Three police officials, including Thariri Mohabbat SHO and the official in charge of Sindhri Butra police check post, were suspended on the charge of involvement in the oil theft.
DPO (operation) Ali Akbar Bhangwar told this reporter a group of men broke the main oil pipeline of Parco at section 74, 12km off Thariri Mohabbat police station, on Saturday.
He said Parco security official Rashidul Hassan was informed about the incident and he informed the police. The DPO said a police party raided the spot and arrested Kalimullah Chandio, Mukhtiar Chandio, Azizullah Chandio, Nazar, Ali Asghar and Darya Khan.
He said the police also recovered machinery, clips and drums of oil from the spot. The DPO said the practice was continued for the last four months at some places in the jurisdiction of Thrari Mohabbat police station with the connivance of some police and Parco officials.
He said the involved police officials were suspended and an FIR was registered under section 379, 511, 427, and 14 HO on the complaint of Mr Hassan. The police was conducting raids to arrest the involved people, he added.
The DPO said that he had ordered the investigation team to also arrest the owners of the petrol pumps who were purchasing the stolen petrol from them.
DOCTORS: A pregnant woman fell unconscious and her baby died owing to the negligence of the doctors of the Civil Hospital here.
This was alleged by Sita Road union council Nazim Ali Mohammad Soomro, relative of the woman, Khalida Soomro, while talking to reporters at the press club here on Saturday.
He said that on Friday night, he took Ms Soomro to the Civil Hospital and requested the doctors to conduct an operation. However, he said, the doctors used delaying tactics and the patient was operated upon at 5am in the morning, when she fell unconscious.
He said that when the operation was completed, the baby was dead. He demanded action against the officials involved. When contacted, the civil surgeon of the hospital, Dr Javed Ahmed Dawach, said that due to wrong diagnosis of the private practitioners, the baby had already died some three days back.
He said that the Civil Hospital doctor conducted the operation when the woman was normal.
