DADU, Feb 9: Two union council Nazims have complained that the anti-sand fly spray was not carried out in their areas to eradicate the skin disease, leishmaniasis.

Talking to newsmen in the office of the district Naib Nazim on Sunday, Tore Union Council Nazim Nazeer Leghari and Drigh Bala Union Council Nazim Sikandar Leghari said that number of afflicted patients was increasing in 40 villages of both the union councils in the Kachho area.

They said health officials were not paying attention to patients in remote villages. They said the health department had only set-up a rural health centre in Drigh Bala and a basic health unit in Kasibo which were insufficient for 50,000 population of the two union councils.

They said skin specialists were only treating patients at taluka hospitals and condition of around 1,000 patients in the two union councils was critical. They said the people of Kachho had no money to hire vehicles for transportation of patients to hospitals.

They demanded that camps should be established in Taj Mohammad Daultani, Kaisbo, Bari, Chakar Kot, Jalib Deero, Yamin Leghari, Tore, Rajo Deero, Sim, Sobo Doultani, Nang-jo-Khooh, Poto, Gharbani, Feero Deero, Nangar Dario, Ibrahim Leghari, Faiz Mohammad and other villages.

They said the anti-sand fly spray was only solution for the eradication of the disease as the semi-desert area of Kachho was the breeding ground of the sand fly whose sting caused the skin disease.

Speaking on the occasion, the district Naib Nazim said following such complaints federal industries and production minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi had taken up the matter with the chief minister of Sindh and sufficient quantity of medicines was provided to the district health department.
