HYDERABAD, Feb 18: Protest demonstrations by activists of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy, attended by a large number of People's Party Parliamentarians workers, continued for the sixth consecutive day on Wednesday throughout interior Sindh.

In Hyderabad, activists of the PPP, Pakistan Muslim League-N and People's Democratic Party were led by MNA Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur, MPAs Maula Bux Chandio, Nuzhat Pathan and Farheen Mughal and others.

They raised slogans against President Gen Pervez Musharraf. Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said they had started the struggle against what they called anti-people rulers who had destroyed the country.

They demanded the immediate release of Asif Ali Zardari and withdrawal of false cases against PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, Mr Zardari, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and other political leaders.

THATTA: PPP MNA Syed Amir Ali Shah Jamote, MPA Sassui Palijo, Thatta PPP senior vice-president Syed Masood Mustafa Shah and others led a procession in Sujawal.

The protesters, wearing black arm bands and raising slogans against the government, marched through main thoroughfares and later converged at the Park Chowk. The leaders said the huge turnout of the people in the ARD protest movement was an evidence of hatred and expression of no confidence against Gen Musharraf. They said he should honour the will of the people and step down as the president.

KHAIRPUR: A large number of PPP activists, led by MPAs Nawab Wassan, Zahid Ali Bhambhan, Naeem Kharal and Dr Mehreen Bhutto, observed a token hunger strike. Talking to the protesters, the MPAs held the government responsible for unemployment, price hike and poor law and order situation in the country.

DADU: A token hunger strike was observed and a procession was taken out by hundreds of PPP activists against Gen Musharraf.

After marching through different roads and streets of the town, the protesters held a demonstration outside the press club and blocked the road for three hours.

They were led by PPP MNA Rafiq Ahmad Jamali, MPA Sharafunnisa Leghari and PPP Central Committee members Qambar Ali Khan Leghari, Talat Mahessar, Qazi Shafique Ahmad Mahessar and Dost Ali Jaiser.

NAWABSHAH: PPP and PML-N activists, led by MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio and MPA Syed Ali Ahmad Shah, staged a sit-in opposite the press club. They demanded the removal of President Musharraf and the release of Mr Zardari.

JACOBABAD: Activists of the PPP took out a procession from the party office. After passing through different roads, the protesters held a demonstration at the DC Chowk.

Talking to the protesters, Agha Siraj Durrani, Jamil Soomro, Abdul Sattar Brohi and others said the people were facing hardships and were deprived of political and economic rights.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: PPP and PML-N activists, led by district PPP general-secretary Karim Bux Mallah and Dr Sattar Rajpar, observed a token hunger strike near the Jalbani petrol pump.

SHIKARPUR: The ARD leaders and workers continued a token hunger strike on the sixth consecutive day on Wednesday at the Mirani Eidgah. MNA Anwar Bhutto, Ghulam Mohammad Shahlani from Jacobabad, Agha Taimoor, Naseer Lodhi, Peeral Sanjrani and a large number of activist observed the hunger strike.
