RAWALPINDI, Feb 25: Traders of Commercial Market pulled down shutters, burnt tires on the road and stopped traffic to protest against what they called the dilapidated roads.
The protest started as the contractor who built the road began patchwork on the road which was washed away in the recent rains. The Rs2.2 million road construction project was launched following demands of the traders and people living in the area.
The recent rains, however, created deep craters and major chunks of the road were washed away. The traders demanded a full reconstruction and investigation into the alleged use of poor quality of material used in the construction of the road.
As the contractor resumed re-carpeting of a portion of the road, the traders took to the streets and demanded complete reconstruction. -APP
