DERA GHAZI KHAN, Feb 25: Farmers blocked the Indus Highway at Shadan Lond, some 50 kilometres from here, on Wednesday in protest against the construction of Kaachi canal.
According to farmers, the project will destroy the socio-economic map of the area as residents will have no right to use the water of the canal.
The protesting farmers, led by Seraiki Qaumi Movement's Hameed Asghar Shaheen, blocked the highway for half an hour. Earlier, the farmers attended a seminar arranged by the Hirak Kisan Sath to discuss indigenous methods and techniques regarding the use of non-chemical fertilizers for better crops and to discuss demerits of Kaachi canal.
