SIALKOT: Workshop on gender justice

Published February 27, 2004

SIALKOT, Feb 26: Almost 95 per cent working women are being sexually harassed at their work places in Pakistan. This was claimed by the speakers at a workshop on "Code of conduct of gender justice at the workplace" organized jointly by the Working Women Organization (WWO) and the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Thursday.

The workshop is aimed at creating awareness among people on the rights of working women. They stressed the need to make policies and laws so that women feel safe at their workplaces. "Harassment stops women, who are around 50 per cent of the population, from contributing to the progress and prosperity of the country," they added.

Road blocked: Heirs of the two deceased persons, who were shot dead in Pakka Garah over an old enmity by three proclaimed offenders a week ago, on Thursday staged a demonstration against the Muradpur police for its failure to arrest the killers.

The protesters, including women and children, blocked traffic on the Kashmir Road for 30 minutes and chanted slogans against the police. Later, they restored the traffic on the assurance of the police high-ups that the killers would be arrested soon. The protesters also demanded immediate suspension of the Muradpur police SHO.
