RAWALPINDI, Feb 27: The Punjab governor, Lt-Gen (retired) Khalid Maqbool, on Friday called on President Gen Pervez Musharraf and apprised him of the proposed strategy to exploit the scope of enhancement in the production of exportable commodities.

The governor said enhanced production would help boost the national economy, besides creating job market for skilled labour in the country. He gave a detailed presentation to the president on the outcome of his interaction with the entrepreneurs from the textile and garments industry, engineering goods manufacturing sector, leather industry, housing and construction, and hospitality and entertainment sectors.

He said a framework of essential measures had been prepared to take advantage of the potential investment opportunities in these sectors.

The president appreciated the efforts being made by the governor for taking up the significant issue of poverty alleviation through induction of more vibrant policies in the sphere of mega-economy in such a way that its beneficial effects could trickle down to the common man.

Gen Musharraf suggested that the proposed strategy be taken up with the federal government for its incorporation in the national trade and economic policy.
