SAHIWAL, March 5: The district government on Friday allowed the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy to hold a public meeting on the Hockey Ground here on March 11.
The decision was made by the district management after talks with local ARD leaders including the district president, Mehr Ghulam Farid Kathia, and secretary-general Malik Nadim Kamran.
A spokesman for the ARD said the meeting would be addressed by ARD chairman MNA Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Senator Raza Rabbani, Raja Zafarul Haq, Qasim Zia and Zulfiqar Ali Khosa.
LAWYERS' PROTEST: Lawyers of the district bar continued their boycott of courts on Friday to protest the murder of two of their senior colleagues. A district bar meeting presided over by its president, Qutbudin Tariq, decided not to hold a dialogue with DPO Malik Khuda Bakhsh Awan.
The meeting also constituted a committee to provide legal assistance to family members of the late Rana Sultan Alam and Rashid Anwar.
UC BY-POLLS: As many as 16 candidates have filed nomination papers for three seats of Nazims in Union Councils No 37, 45 and 48. For one seat of Naib Nazim, five candidates have filed nomination papers. There are 28 candidates for 14 seats of general councillors and 19 for nine seats of women. The Election Commission of Pakistan has allowed receipt of nomination papers up to March 8. The papers will be scrutinized on March 11 and 12.
