BAHAWALPUR, March 8: The legal heirs and descendants of Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi (the fifth) are divided over the disposal of rare books, historic manuscripts and other documents that were found from the Sadigarh palace.

The inventory also confirmed the presence of the books and other material at the palace. Some of the descendants want that these should be given to some institution while others demand that they be equally distributed among them.

Dr Rahimyar Khan Abbasi, one of the descendants, proposed that the books and other rare material should be given to the Islamia University for the benefit of the students and scholars. However, this proposal was vehemently opposed by other descendants, including Sahibzada Qamaruzzaman Abbasi, who himself has tried his pen on the history of the family.

They said the late Nawab's books and other documents should be handed over to the central library, which was also one of the entities of Nawab Sadiq. The central library would serve the masses, besides students and academics, they added.

ANTI-POLIO CAMPAIGN: The three-day anti-polio campaign began here on Monday. DCO Imran Ahmad inaugurated the campaign by administrating polio drops to children.

Around 500,000 children below five years will be administered drops in the district. To achieve the target, nearly 1,085 teams have been assigned the task.

NOMINATIONS: The process of filing nomination papers for the bypolls for the vacant union council seats completed here on Monday. According to reports received from other tehsil headquarters, a small number of candidates turned up at the offices of the returning officers to file their nominations in the last two days.
