LARKANA, March 9: The Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench, here on Tuesday issued notices to the Kambar DSP and four SHOs to appear before it on March 10 in connection with a petition alleging police harassment.

The petitioner, Karimdino Chandio, alleged that four days back, the SHOs of the Drigh, Kambar, Warah and Ghabidero police stations raided his house. The SHOs, he stated, asked him to hand over his sons - Nazeer Hussain, Wazeer Hussain, Manzoor Hussain, Abdul Raheem, Naseer Ahmed and Shabir Ahmed - saying they were wanted in some criminal cases.

The petitioner said that the SHOs maltreated him after he said that his sons were not at home. According to Chandio, the SHOs was told that his sons were not involved in any criminal cases but the raids on his house continued.

He said that policemen from the four police station were harassing him to force him to hand over his sons. He prayed the court to stop the police from harassing him and ask them to produce record if any case against his sons had been registered.

PROTEST: Residents of Haji Jafar Chandio village held a protest demonstration outside the investigation DPO office here on Tuesday against the Drigh police.

The protesters alleged that the police had implicated a villager, Ali Dost Chandio, in a fake case of possessing a Kalashnikov. Elaborating, they said that 10 days back, the police picked Chandio up while he was returning home with Rs300,000 cheques after selling grain.

According to the mother of Chandio, he was implicated in a case of carrying the unlicensed weapon and sent to jail without his relatives being informed. They demanded withdrawal of the "false" case against him. The DPO met the protesters and assured them of justice on which they dispersed.
