GUJRANWALA, March 10: The local high-ups of the PTCL sacked on Wednesday 100 daily wagers who presented a memorandum regarding regularization of their service to the new chairman of the company.

Sources said the sacked daily wagers had been working at various telephone exchanges and company's offices in the region for the last five years. They had gone to Islamabad to meet company's new chairman to present a memorandum regarding regularization of their service. Some daily wagers laid down on the road in front of the chairman's car to stop him.

The chairman expressed dismay over the act of daily wagers and reportedly directed officers concerned to sack all of them immediately. Meanwhile, the PTCL Workers Union has protested against the administration for sacking 100 daily wagers and demanded that they should be reinstated immediately otherwise they would come on roads.

ATC NO 2: The ATC No 2 continued the hearing of the murder case of PPP city president Chaudhry Khalid Humayun here on Wednesday. The court recorded the statement of the prosecution witness, special judicial magistrate Muhammad Irfan Sindhu, and another witness, Muhammad Akram. The judge, Mirza Rafiuzzaman, adjourned the case till March 13.

BEATEN UP: A motorcycle-rickshaw driver was beaten up and hurt by Cantonment Board's parking fee contractor and his men at Rahwali sugar mills chowk on Wednesday.

Reports said Nadeem had a dispute with the fee collectors, who gave him a sound beating after which he was hospitalized. The Cantonment Board has fixed Re1 parking fee for each trip of motorcycle-rickshaw. But the contractor and his men are allegedly overcharging.

BYPOLLS: The returning officers continued on Wednesday hearing of objections to the nominations for the local bodies bypolls.
