Rawalpindi ODIs history

KARACHI, March 15: Tuesday's day/night clash between Pakistan and India will be the 19th One-day International to be played in the city of Rawalpindi. Rawalpindi, known as one of the twin cities because of its proximity to Islamabad has staged One-day Internationals on two different grounds.

Pindi Club Ground (also known as Army Cricket Ground), hosted two One-day Internationals, including the 1987 World Cup tie between Pakistan and England. But since 1992, all internationals are played at the 15,000-capacity Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

For the Indians this is the first time they are playing an international fixture in the northern city. Pakistan have an excellent record at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, winning 10 of their 13 matches.

Out of seven day/night One-day Internationals played since floodlights were installed at this ground in 2000, Pakistan have been victorious on five occasions.

Three of the 16 matches played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium were part of the 1996 World Cup. South Africa featured in all these games and emerged easy winners in each of them.

South Africa's Gary Kirsten has the honour of notching up the highest score at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium when he made an undefeated 188 against United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the 1996 World Cup. His compatriot Andrew Hudson scored 161 against Holland in the same tournament.

Pakistan captain Inzamam ul Haq is the leading batsman at this venue with 442 runs in 12 matches, averaging 63.14, with one century - 117 against Sri Lanka in the inaugural match staged at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium 12 years ago.

Waqar Younis has claimed most wickets at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, taking 11 in six matches. The best figures achieved in a ODI by any bowler at this ground were five for 20 by off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, who is in the 16-man squad for the current series against India.
