DADU, March 22: One Naib Nazim and 41 councillors were elected unopposed on vacant seats in the local bodies by-election in the district. Total 113 seats of councillors, two union council Nazims and four Naib Nazims were declared vacant by the Election Commission.

The by-election is scheduled to be held on March 28. Those elected included Naib Nazim UC Gozo Zulfiqar Gadehi, and 19 women councillors in different UCs. Some 36 seats for minority councillors would remain vacant as no nomination was filed for these seats for the by-election.

DPO Akbar Bhangwar told this correspondent on Monday that 30 polling stations had been declared sensitive. He said total 2,520 police men would be deputed to maintain law and order on the polling day.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the People's Party Parliamentarians Mehar taluka was held on Monday to chalk out the election strategy. The PPP Mehar taluka president Ghulam Dastagir, Qazi Shafiq, Talat Mahessar, Riaz Chandio and others attended the meeting.

The meeting alleged that their rivals had planned bogus voting in the by-elections. A meeting of the Dadu Ittehad Panel candidates was also held in Betto Jatoi. The Ittehad secretary Ahmed Khan Lund presided over the meeting.

BOYCOTT: On the call of Primary Teachers Association teachers boycotted their classes on Monday throughout the district to press for the acceptance of their demands.

They also took out a procession which after passing through the main roads culminated outside the press club. The PTA general secretary Nazar Sehto and others spoke on the occasion.

TEAM CONSTITUTED: Four teams of the doctors were constituted on Monday to control measles in the Kachho area. DHO Dr Rashid Memon said in charges of the BHU Wahi Pandhi, government dispensary TR Khan, BHU Drigh Bala and taluka health officer Johi had been directed to establish medical camps in the affected villages.
