SUKKUR, March 24: Five employees of the Sui Northern Gas Company Ltd. were kidnapped by armed bandits in the Punoo Mazari village near Mureed Shakh, Ghotki, on Tuesday night.
Those kidnapped were identified as engineers Qazi Irshad Ahmad and Riaz Ahmad, Jawed, Rehmat and Asghar. Fifteen employees of the company were laying a pipeline in the area when about 20 persons attacked the village and took them away. The bandits fled towards Shah Wali, Rajanpur district, Punjab. However, 10 of the employees were released by the outlaws on Wednesday morning.
TENSION: The killing of a man on Tuesday led to tension between activists of the People's Party Parliamentarians and the National People's Party in the Late Nangar Chandio village near Mithiani. Rehmatullah alias Rehmoo Chandio had been killed in an exchange of fire between the activists of the parties.
MINISTER: Sindh chief minister's adviser on home and coordination affairs Aftab Ahmed Shaikh has expressed disappointment over Sukkur police's failure to recover kidnapped journalist Shahbaz Khan Pathan and his friend Naveed Mangi even after a lapse of 18 days.
He was talking to reporters at the residence of Lala Asad Pathan, secretary general of Sukkur press club, on Wednesday. On this occasion, he was told that the gang of kidnappers had been identified and the police had assured journalists that the captives would be got released shortly.
The journalists said that, AIGP, Sukkur range Rahoo Khan Brohi and DPO, Sukkur, Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, had told them that they had closed in on the kidnappers, and that the hostages would be got released soon.
Police sources said that the operation was not being conducted in the area keeping in view the safety of the captives. However, the journalists reposed their confidence in the AIGP and DPO, Sukkur, who they said had made every effort for the safe recovery of the hostages.
Zonal Incharge of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Sukkur, Abul Kalam, was also present on the occasion. Later, addressing the district police officers of Sukkur and Khairpur, Mr Aftab Shaikh appreciated the performance of Sindh police, as a result of which, he said, the overall law and order situation had improved. This could be gauged from the stock exchange indicators, he added.
