GUJRANWALA, March 25: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and the District Bar Association (DBA) would launch a protest movement against the government for Wana operation while activists of religious parties take out rallies after Juma prayers.

This was stated by district Jamaat-i-Islami amir Maulana Obaidur Rehman Madni here on Thursday. According to the plan, lawyers would hold a meeting in the Bar room on Friday at 11:30am to condemn the Wana operation and killing of innocent people on the flimsy excuse of hunting Al-Qaeda members.

DBA secretary general Malik Sarwar appealed to his colleagues to participate in the meeting. Meanwhile, a Pakistan Shariat Council meeting held here at Sheranwala Bagh mosque on Thursday condemned the operation. The council and the MMA set up a protest camp and demanded that the operation should be stopped immediately.

SHOW-CAUSE NOTICE: An anti-terrorism court on Thursday issued a show-cause notice to Sabzi Mandi SHO for not appearing before court. Earlier, the court recorded statements of two eyewitnesses in the circus fire against Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal activists, including MNA Maulana Qazi Hamidullah and his son Maulana Kifayatullah, and adjourned the hearing for March 29.

According to the prosecution, MMA activists led by MNA Maulana Hamidullah and district Jamaat-i-Islami senior vice president Hafiz Hamiduddin Awan, took out a protest rally against a circus administration claiming that they were promoting obscenity about a year ago. The protesters set the circus to fire.

ACQUITTAL: A court acquitted Kabir Ahmad of murder charge when witnesses did not sport the prosecution. According to the prosecution, Kabir had shot dead his stepsister Aasia over her alleged loose morals about two years ago.
