HYDERABAD, March 29: A comprehensive survey is being carried out by the district government to prepare an industrial profile of the district to detect irregularities, bring industrialists into tax net and protect rights of workers.

This was stated by DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed at a meeting on industrial affairs of the district here on Saturday. He said a joint committee - comprizing representatives of Income Tax, Hesco, PTCL, Sui Southern Gas Company, SESSI, Old-Age Benefits Institution and Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry - had been formed to identify whether all the industries in the district abided by the rules and regulations.

He directed that who so ever was found guilty should be prosecuted according to law. He said all the bottlenecks for taking action against the defaulters would be removed with the help of departments concerned and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He directed the labour department to ensure that letter of appointment was issued to the workers and all the unskilled workers were paid minimum wages at the rate of Rs2,500 per month as required under the Minimum Wages Ordinance.

The DCO directed the Social Security Institution to ensure that all the workers in the industries of the district were registered with them and looked after properly. He directed the Old-Age Benefits Institution not only to register workers but also ensure that benefits were provided to them.
