HYDERABAD, April 1: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has said that after clarification by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali about the Hyderabad development package , the problem has been solved and now the package will be named as president's package.

He said the prime minister had clarified that the Hyderabad package was not announced by him but by President Gen Pervez Musharraf and that the package was intact.

Talking to journalists at the press club, he expressed the hope that funds under the package would be released during the next fiscal year to start development schemes in the district.

Earlier, at the district Nazim's intervention, people of Qasimabad, who had been observing a hunger strike outside the press club to protest against non-release of development funds, called off their strike.

Mr Rafiquzzaman appealed to political parties and elected representatives not to create any controversy on the development package. He said now there was no reason for him or councillors to resign from their posts.

He said development schemes would be carried out with cooperation of people. He said the development package funds would be spent in five years and almost all towns and villages of the district would be electrified and provided with gas facility. He hoped that the district would wear a new look after implementation of the development schemes.

The Nazim thanked the adviser to the Sindh chief minister, Aftab Ahmad Shaikh, and all elected representatives for their efforts in getting the package.
