GUJRANWALA, April 6: The intermediate students have demanded the Punjab Boards of Education Committee to offer 100 per cent choice to the candidates as is the practice of the federal board.

A number of students and their parents said here on Tuesday the federal education board was offering 100 per cent choice in the papers of the secondary schools and intermediate examinations, but the Punjab boards had abolished the choice which was unjustified.

They demanded that this disparity should be removed to provide level playing-field to the candidates appearing in the examination. When contacted, Gujranwala BISE chairman Dr Muhammad Aslam Ghauri said the Punjab boards committee had abolished 50 per cent choice to enhance the students' abilities in examination.

ROUTE PERMITS: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) secretary has cancelled the route permits of 50 vehicles, plying on GT Road between Gujranwala and Kamoki. The district administration set up Transport Society Gujranwala (TSG) some five years ago which had been plying more than 300 wagons between Ghakhar to Kamoki through Rahwali, Gujranwala and Eminabad.

The transport department allowed private companies to launch franchised bus service on the route. The commuters had been preferring the wagons to buses and the companies were facing financial losses.

Sources said that the companies approached the RTA secretary who cancelled the route permits of 50 wagons. The owners of the TSG vehicles have demanded an impartial inquiry against the RTA secretary.

DACOITS KILL YOUTH: A youth was killed when he identified one of the dacoits in his house in Ladheywala Warriach village. Reports said five dacoits entered the house of Ramazan and started collecting valuables.

Ramazan's son Amjad told the intruders that he had identified one of them. The dacoits opened fire, killing him on the spot. Police registered the case against Farman and his accomplices.
