ISLAMABAD, April 6: India completed their domination of the shooting competitions, with yet another gold through top marksman Jaspal Rana in the 25m standard pistol event who won his sixth crown of the Games.
He failed to match his performance of Kathmandu Games in 1999 though where he had a haul of eight top of the line medals. Jaspal totalled 571 as his countryman Samaresh Jung, picked up a silver with 570, the bronze going to Pakistan's Kashif Riaz who had a score of 559.
India were also the winners of the team title in the same event, Ashok Pandit, Jaspal Rana and Samrash Jung accumulating 1700 points. That left the Pakistani trio of Irshad Ali, Zahid Ali and Kashif Riaz with a silver as they put on 1648. Bangladesh's Saleem, Taufiq and Asif, who had 1576 points took the bronze.
For the strong Indians, the shooting tournament yielded an impressive 26 golds out of a total 30 that were at stake as they finished with an overall tally of 42. Pakistan were second on the medals table with two gold, 14 silver and eight bronze medals, totalling 24 followed by Bangladesh whose figures read 2-3-7 for a total of 12. Sri Lanka also had as many medals but went without a gold.
