LAHORE, April 12: Accountability Court Judge Syed Shafqat Ali on Monday recorded statements of two more prosecution witnesses in an illegal assets reference against acting PML-N president and MNA Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and adjourned proceedings for April 17.

It is pertinent to mention that the court had already exempted Javed Hashmi from personal appearance in the court. The NAB alleged that the accused possessed assets worth more than Rs28 million (assessed at the time of acquisition) having the market value of more than Rs38 million in his own name or in the name of his dependents from 1991-1999, disproportionate to his known sources of income, which he could not account for.

NOTICE TO LDA: Mr Justice Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmad of the Lahore High Court on Monday issued a notice to the LDA director-general seeking his parawise comments within three weeks on the petition of a doctor.

Petitioner Dr Naveed Iqbal pleaded before the court that he was running a private clinic at his residence in the Garden Town area and according to the rules he was exempted from the tax.

But the LDA officials, despite the fact that the case was pending before the trial court, challaned him four times and issued warning notices to pay the tax, otherwise face strict action, he added.

NOTICE TO NAB: The Special Appellate Bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday issued a notice to the NAB chairman on an acquittal plea of former managing director of the United Housing Cooperative Limited Razia Shafi with the direction to submit a reply during the next week.

The petitioner contended that the NAB arrested her during last year in a reference charging her with corruption and malpractices. She further said that she had filed a petition before the court upon which it directed the trial court to conclude proceedings within three months, but the trial court failed to do so. She prayed the court to take notice of the matter and order her release on bail. -PPI
