SUKKUR, April 14: Ten houses, cash, gold ornaments, cattle and stocks of wheat and rice were gutted in the village of Abdul Karim Khoso near Thul on Tuesday. The fire which had broken out in a house later engulfed the adjoining area
As fire brigade of Thul town was out of order, fire fighting staff was called from Jacobabad which reached the village after 10 hours. The gutted houses belonged to Mohammad Ibrahim, Khamiso, Jabal, Gul Bahar, Nazar Mohammad, Din Mohammad and others.
DEMO: The Hesco workers held a protest demonstration in Thul and blocked its main road for three hours by parking vehicles on it. They were protesting against police failure to provide protection to people and the Hesco employees in particular.
They said that bandits had recently tried to kidnap line superintendents Jatoi Noonari, Aijaz Noonari and Sajan Larik and when they offered resistance, the criminals fled on their motorcycle. The Hesco employees threatened to suspend power supply to police stations of the area if the bandits were not arrested within 48 hours.
SUSPENDED: District Naib Nazim Iqbal Dawood Pakwala has suspended Tapedar Ali Bux Mahar and ordered district officer, revenue, Dr Saeed Ahmed, to conduct an investigation into allegation of bribe against some revenue officers.
He issued the orders at a meeting held at his office here to look into complaints that a Mukhtiarkar and other officials were getting bribe for issuing extract certificates and Deh forms. On another complaint that a fake registry had been made of a property, the Naib Nazim appointed Dr Saeed as inquiry officer.
PRISONER: A prisoner, Mumtaz Ali, son of Ali Sher Shah, died in the Central Jail-I here. The prison authorities said that the prisoner complained of pain in his kidney and died before he could be provided medical aid.
