LARKANA, April 15: The Sindh government had decided to construct open-air theatres in Larkana and Khairpur. This was stated by district coordination officer Dr Badruddin Ujjan.

He told this correspondent here on Thursday that the schemes had been included in the annual development programme and at the outset, Rs2 million had been released for them.

The DCO said that the chief engineer, buildings department, had been asked to initiate the basic work at the sites. He said that a blueprint of the Larkana theatre had been approved and a plot in Sachal Sarmast Colony earmarked. Soon the construction work would start of the project which would cost Rs20 million, he said.

Sources in the department of culture said that the provincial government had also decided to construct a cultural complex in Daraza and more reading halls in Liaquat Memorial Library, Karachi, and Public Library, Hyderabad. The government had released Rs4 million as first tranche for the projects and more funds would come with the passage of time, sources said.

KILLED: A villager, Ali Akbar Abro, was killed in Khandoo Goth near Warah on Thursday when he resisted thieves who had entered his house to commit a theft.

ROAD BLOCKED: A large number of people blocked Larkana-Sukkur road by erecting barricades on it in Mahota to protest against kidnapping of Gul Hassan Mangi. They demanded recovery of Mangi and condemned police for its apathy.

Police resorted to baton-charge the protestors, injuring five of them whose names could not be ascertained. The protesters hurled stones on police and vehicles in retaliation. Later road was cleared and traffic restored on it. The DPO immediately transferred the Mahota SHO and appointed the SHO of Dhamraho in his police station.

PROTEST: The students of primary schools in Ratodero on Wednesday boycotted classes and took to the streets, demanding recovery of a missing nine-year-old boy, Abdul Ghani Jakhro, from the town.
