KHAIRPUR, April 22: Mohammad Waris Janwari, the father of Maulana Ali Sher Hyderi, chief of Millat-i-Islamia Pakistan, was killed and three others, including the SHO of B-section police station , were injured when two groups of people clashed over a plot of land in Luqman Mohalla here on Thursday.

Earlier in the morning members of the Ali Sher Hyderi and Qalandar Bux Jagirani groups had visited the B-section police station for the settlement of the dispute. It was decided in the meeting that a police picket would be set up on the disputed plot near the Luqman railway crossing. But after a few hours firing started on the scene.

As a result, Mohammad Waris Janwari, 60, was killed and B-section police station SHO Mustafa Hussain Rajput was injured. Ali Hyder, the brother of Maulana Hyderi, and one minor boy, Amir Hassan, sustained injuries in the clash. The injured were admitted to the hospital.

Maulana Ali Sher Hyderi told newsmen that his father was killed in the police firing. After the incident, a large number of people and students of Darul Uloom Hamadia came out and blocked the Pir-jo-Goth-Khairpur road. They also closed shops in the Luqman area. An angry mob set ablaze the house of Qalandar Bux Jagirani.

Some people took out a procession and passed through The Mall, Shahi Bazaar, Sachal shopping centre, Panj Gulla, vegetable and fruit market. As a result shops were closed in all these areas.

The policemen were deployed in different parts of the city. They sealed the underground railway double crossing bridge. District Nazim Syeda Nafisa Shah visited the hospital and inquired about the health of injured people. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
